“With bright colors and vigorous brushstrokes, I strive to capture the feeling of a place. The varieties of landscape here in North Carolina, mountains, water, architecture, become the jumping off points for uncovering a mood. Using the colors of light and atmosphere and lively brushstrokes, I explore spreading that mood over the whole image, so that all the parts serve the whole.”

Lisa Blackshear graduated with a BA in Studio Arts from the University of Minnesota, while working as an illustrator for the college newspaper. After graduation she  illustrated for publications in the Twin Cities area, and then moved to New York where her illustrations appeared in Newsweek, the Wall Street Journal, the Village Voice, among other publications. She also exhibited paintings in galleries in Minneapolis and New York.  She and her husband and son moved to Asheville North Carolina in 2009. In the fall of 2013 she organized the Asheville Urban Landscape Project to bring professional and emerging artists together to paint “en plein air”. Lisa paints regularly with the Asheville Urban Landscape Project, WNCPAP, Mixed Nuts, and the Red House in Black Mountain. Recent exhibitions: Gallery of Fine Art in Black Mountain, the Chiesa Restaurant in Montford, the Arrowhead Gallery in Old Fort, the Cradle of Forestry in Brevard, and the Mars Hill University Gallery.
